Much of life happens on a really small level through common everyday occurrences. In truth, the epic events in our lives are few and far in between. For better or for worse, we are all shaped by these seemingly insignificant momentary encounters we have with others.
For well over a century the fathers of the modern self-help movement have taught us to think big and for the most part I share in their sentiment. But sometimes we can be so hyper focused on the big things that we fail to take advantage of the small opportunities presented to us. As a result we never really make that big splash.
If you practiced something everyday for an hour, over time you would experience huge improvement. If you saved a small amount of money regularly and invested it wisely, over time your investment would grow exponentially. Chipping away at things little by little is how big results are achieved. This is true whether it’s related to improving a particular skill set, mending a relationship or impacting the lives of others for God.
By not thinking small enough we miss countless opportunities to make quantifiable progress and the significant difference we’re capable of.
If you made it a point to be kind, gracious, uplifting and encouraging to everyone you encounter on a daily basis, by the end of your life you will have had an enormous impact on others.
It would be foolish to negate these little acts of kindness and tangible demonstrations of love, as these are the true treasures of the human heart and the real barometer for Godly achievement.
Most of our genuinely noble deeds that carry any eternal value whatsoever will be done so in secret, with no audience, and with little to no appreciation.
President Harry S. Truman once said, “ It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.” What you do in secret when there aren’t any cameras, and no eminent reward or praise to be garnered, is really who you are.
Thinking small is really the key to unlocking the bigger blessings because it’s based on your faithfulness to the small things that God has set before you.
Some people dream of making it big in someway while others have a desire to significantly impact people with their life. In either case, this can only be accomplished if you are faithful to the little things on a daily basis. Think small, be proactive and huge results will follow.
